A Marathon from Close House Hotel to Tynemouth Long Sands
Over the course of the 3 days we had 70 people join us for different sections of our epic C2C3.
Day 1 started bright and early as a peloton of 25 cycled out of Whitehaven Harbour headed east. We then had 19 hardy souls who braved the freezing Derwent Water before getting back on their bikes to finish a long, challenging and a hugely entertaining day.
Day 2 saw the team whittled down to 11 as the challenge demanded a double Marathon run. Whilst the runners were making their way across the Country, a select team of our Day 1 cyclist’s set themselves the challenge of equalling the previous day’s efforts and cycling 100 miles!
Day 3 was always going to be the highlight and it did not disappoint; with almost 30 runners taking on the Marathon (including 6 debutants). At The Monument in Newcastle and half way into the Marathon we were joined by a further 25 runners ready to run the final leg down to Tynemouth Longsands Beach. The finish on the golden sands at Tynemouth is always emotional but this year was something we will never forget...needless to say there were tears!
